Cannabis and Cancer
Most people have heard that cannabis can be extremely useful in ameliorating certain side effects of cancer treatment like nausea, vomiting, pain and loss of appetite. In fact, this particular medical use of cannabis helped spawn the current medical cannabis legalization movement.
In recent years, evidence has also shown that cannabis can be effective in fighting cancer itself. The recent flurry of press around cannabis and cancer has helped to get the word out. But with so much attention, it can be easy to lose sight of what we know and what we don’t. That’s why this recently updated report from the National Cancer Institute is so helpful.
For example, the document, reported on by Ganjapreneur, explains that administration of THC can reduce the incidence of colon and liver cancer in some animals, although the findings have yet to be replicated in humans. It also notes evidence that cannabis may protect healthy cells and kill cancer cells.
The report also addresses the cannabis and the side effects of cannabis treatment. The report notes among other findings, that cannabis can reduce nausea and vomiting, ease pain, stimulate appetite and aid with weight gain.
