Flavonoids: Another Class of Cannabis Constituents
Cannabis community, meet flavonoids, another class of beneficial phytochemicals found in a number of plants, including cannabis. Flavonoids can bind with cannabinoids and terpenes (the other psychoactive chemicals found in cannabis) and can also interact with our bodies’ cannabinoid receptors. This makes them important constituents of the entourage effect, the term we use to describe the combined effect of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids on the human organism.
In addition to providing certain plants with their characteristic hues, flavonoids act as antioxidants and anti-inflammatories and serve as anti-cancer, anti-aging, anti-bacterial and pro-cardiovascular agents. These compounds also interact with human opiate receptors, providing additional analgesic properties beyond those provided by cannabinoids and terpenes.
Here at Pure Green, we never cease to be amazed at the wealth of knowledge we are gaining about the cannabis plant. We look forward to more research on cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids, and perhaps the discovery of other useful compounds within this remarkable plant
