State Police and National Guard Harass an 81-Year-Old-Woman Over a Single Pot Plant
Massachusetts state police, in a joint operation with the National Guard, raided the home of 81-year-old Peg Holcomb in order to seize a single cannabis plant. After the plant was spotted by a low flying National Guard helicopter, police sent several vehicles to seize the single, small plant, which they ripped out of the ground without a warrant.
Holcomb, who was angered by the raid and the criminal treatment, isn’t taking this lying down. “I had been nursing this baby through a drought, and I was pretty pissed to tell you the truth,” she told the Boston Globe.
“This is a violation of the Fourth Amendment, I am a citizen of the United States of America. You have overstepped and I am not going to step aside,” Holcomb said.
Here in Oregon, it’s easy to forget that cannabis isn’t legal everywhere, and that this type of intimidation and persecution continues to occur. Kudos to Peg Holcomb to standing up for herself.
